LNER Class A3 4472 Flying Scotsman is a 4-6-2 "Pacific" steam locomotive built in 1923 at the Doncaster Works for operation on the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER).
Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, Flying Scotsman was the first locomotive to run the London - Edinburgh service in in a time of 8 hours and 3 minutes.
On 30 November 1934, Flying Scotsman became the first steam locomotive to reach the officially authenticated speed of 100 mph (161 km/h)
