RMS Lusitania, British ocean liner, holder of the Blue Riband and for a short time, until the completion of her sister ship Mauretania, the world's largest ship. Launched by the Cunard line in 1906 for the North Atlantic trade she was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat (U20) on 7th May 1915 with the loss of 1,198 passengers and crew. She had made a total of 202 trans-Atlantic crossings.
